Video: VA Acting Deputy Secretary discusses EHR hold

“The Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM) project at the Department of Veterans Affairs is on hold as the Secretary of the VA, Denis McDonough, conducts a review of the program. Dr. Carolyn Clancy, Acting Deputy Secretary of the VA, told the House Veterans Affairs Technology Modernization Subcommittee this week the VA will not roll out EHRM at new locations until the review is complete and Congress can see what the agency found.

  • Clancy said the department is reviewing all aspects of the program, which went live in October, after productivity drops and safety concerns from employees at the launch site in Spokane, Wash.
  • Some of the challenges were caused by the pandemic; for example, social distancing prohibited certain types of training, said Dr. Clancy.
  • Clancy said the review involves multiple work streams focused on ensuring effective governance, decision making and success evaluation metrics…” Watch the video here.
