OptumServe seeking Chief of Staff with deep Federal Health knowledge

The Chief of Staff (COS) serves to coordinate across the business and with the executive leadership team (ELT) to optimize the effectiveness of the Office of the CEO and the ELT in general. The COS is an integrated function within the ELT, participating in the top-level business rhythms of the company driving coordination of activities, schedules, and critical initiatives.  The COS acts upon the CEO’s guidance, directives, and intent to communicate with and foster optimal collaboration effort across the ELT, Senior Leadership Team (SLT), and the broader enterprise.

The COS works in close concert with the Group President, Business Unit CEO’s, Chief Growth Officer, Chief Financial Officer, VP, National Model and Special Projects including Strategic Engagements, and CEO’s Executive Assistant to align and optimize activities across the team. Strong focus is placed upon coordination of the CEO’s activities both internally and externally. This includes engagement with Optum and United Health Group (UHG) executives up to the UHG CEO, customer executives, industry partners/teammates, community and services groups, and other key stakeholders. The Chief of Staff proactively assumes responsibility for responding to requests, including co-ownership of compiling and preparing materials, and serving as a key contact for the CEO and the Optum Executive Leadership team.

This role will have visibility to, and responsibility for, drawing connections between distinct business lines, and advising the CEO on strategic planning and strategic change management and communication efforts that impact all lines of business. Oversees OptumServe Communications and Marketing functions, with the shared goal of advancing enterprise insight and communication at all levels.   Partners across the team to stitch together strategic communications, to include talking points, speech writing/editing and critical internal and external CEO communications. Partners and aligns with Chief of Staff network across the UHG enterprise to bring best practices to the organization. Capitalizes on past experiences and relationships with federal agencies and key influencers in the federal space to shape and enhance the outcome of key strategic business engagements.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Executive Engagement Oversight
  • Coordinates and directs the preparation and coordination of resources and materials for critical executive level meetings
  • Ensures for seamless facilitation of leadership meetings (staff, MBR, QBR) and other leadership forums, as needed
  • Directs the agenda, material preparation and follow-up for leadership staff meetings, deep dives, and other meetings including the CEO
  • Anticipates, manages preparation for, and, when appropriate facilitates meetings and events on behalf of the CEO…

Required Qualifications:

  • A./B.S. (Business Administration, Government Affairs, Public Policy, Health Administration, or Human Resources) required
  • 10+ years experience in a leadership role
  • Deep knowledge of Federal Agencies; Federal Health, HHS, DOD and/or VA preferred.
  • Deep understanding of operations, reporting and forecasting
  • Demonstrated knowledge of internal and external communications strategies inclusive of legislative affairs and congressional inquiries
