DHS Customs and Border Protection is in the “first phase” of implementing an EHR

“DHS OFFICIAL: “FIRST PHASE” OF EHR IMPLEMENTATION — Customs and Border Protection is in the “first phase” of implementing an EHR to assist in treating patients, Alexander Eastman, a senior medical official at DHS, testified to Congress on Tuesday in response to questions from Rep. Lauren Underwood.”

“Underwood has spearheaded efforts to require DHS to implement an electronic health record — raising general scrutiny of the department’s use of technology to treat migrants, as we’ve previously covered. The lack of an EHR at CBP is only one facet of the problem: Department medical personnel have also shown inconsistent documentation practices and have relied on rickety software to generate referrals for outside care…”
