San Francisco Chronicle: After double-billing 411,000 customers, Medicare reimbursed some of them twice

“The Medicare double-billing debacle keeps getting worse.”

“Last week I reported that Medicare erroneously withdrew two monthly premiums — instead of just one — from about 411,000 customers’ bank accounts on Sept. 20. Medicare said it would fix the problem. But instead of reversing just one charge, some customers said Medicare reversed both of them…”

“Some customers have also reported problems getting reimbursed for bank fees they were charged in connection with the government’s mistake. Medicare did not comment on the duplicate reimbursements or bank fees…” Read the full article here.
