“The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Service (CMS) says it plans to update its Hospital Star Ratings methodology starting in 2021 in an effort to more accurately portray hospital quality for patients.”
“The Hospital Star Ratings, which also inform some value-based payments for providers, are a key component of the CMS Hospital Compare website. By leveraging a familiar five-star rating system, CMS hopes that the Hospital Star Ratings will help patients and their family members make informed decisions about where to access healthcare.”
“And although CMS says it is confident in the current effectiveness and accuracy of the Hospital Star Ratings system, it says the program is ripe for an update going into a new round of hospital assessments in 2021…”
“Although CMS has not outlined what these updates will look like, it has begun to survey industry stakeholders about the key issues the agency should address when revamping the Hospital Star Ratings methodology.
