Telehealth Innovation Bill focused on CMS Heads to Capitol Hill for a Third Try

“Lawmakers are hoping the third time’s a charm for a bill that aims to encourage telehealth innovation and improve Medicare reimbursements for connected health programs.”

“The Telehealth Innovation and Improvement Act seeks to encourage more healthcare providers to launch telehealth programs through the Department of Health and Human Services’ Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMI). It also calls on the CMI to evaluate telehealth models “for cost, effectiveness, and improvement in quality of care without increasing the cost of delivery,” and to reimburse them under Medicare if they meet those criteria…”

“As before, the bill has three primary goals:

It would require the Secretary of Health and Human Services to allow eligible hospitals to apply to test expanded telehealth delivery models through the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation Center (CMI).
