Health IT Security: HHS Has Unresolved Cybersecurity Recommendations, GAO finds

“The Department of Health and Human Services has failed to implement many of the Government Accountability Office recommendations made in the past four years, according to a recently released GAO report.”

“The letter, sent to HHS Secretary Alex Azar, described the 392 open recommendations, 42 of which are labeled as “priority.” Of those, four high priority recommendations have yet to be implemented that center around health IT and cybersecurity.”

“GAO officials said HHS has a recommendation implementation rate of 75 percent, 2 percent less than other federal agencies.”

“The four open health IT priority recommendations outlined steps that would ensure HHS can “effectively monitor the effect of electronic health record programs and progress made toward goals, [and] encourage adoption of important cybersecurity processes and procedures among healthcare entities.”
