State Department’s Senior Health IT Advisor for Medical Informatics (CMIO) jumps to industry

Having spent the better part of the last two decades serving the US Department of State in a series of progressively responsible roles, to include providing direction and subject matter expertise for all aspects of the Agency’s health information technology initiatives and projects, including implementation of a globally deployed electronic health record system, Dean Smith has taken on a new challenge as Chief Medical Informatics Officer and Senior Vice President for Government Relations with GlobalMed.

Prior roles include:

  • Senior Advisor for Medical Informatics (CMIO) – Dept of State
  • Principal Deputy Medical Director – Dept of State
  • Regional Medical Manager for Asia – Dept of State
