DoD EHR, MHS GENESIS overcomes initial obstacles at Naval Hospital Bremerton

“It’s been more than a year since Naval Hospital Bremerton became one of the first test sites for the military’s new electronic health record system, and hospital officials believe the system has overcome its many initial growing pains and is making a positive impact on patient care…”

“Earlier this year, a review of the new system, named GENESIS, found a number of issues rendered the system “neither operationally effective nor operationally suitable.” It did not “demonstrate enough workable functionality to manage and document patient care” at those test facilities, according a report from the Department of Defense’s Operational Test and Evaluation Office…”

“The system experienced issues with network latency (the amount of time it takes for information to travel from one part of the network to another) which proved to be especially problematic at the pharmacy…” Read the full article here.
