“This position serves as the Director of the VHA Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Program for the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and is responsible for the management, implementation, and oversight of the VHA FOIA Program. The VHA FOIA Director is positioned in the Information Access and Privacy Office (IAP), Health Information Governance (HIG) division, within the Office of Health Informatics (OHI) in VHA Central Office.”
Responsibilities:
- Interacts with and provides guidance to VHA customers using available communication resources to assist them in managing local privacy and FOIA programs.
- Conducts training sessions and presentations on FOIA related matters.
- Conducts presentations for appropriate VA and VHA personnel involved in FOIA related matters.
- Employs the highest level of tact and diplomacy in working with stakeholders to ensure their understanding of VHA FOIA requirements and how they can achieve them.
- Influences and persuades employees and managers to accept and implement findings and recommendations.
- Assists and advises all levels of VHA staff on the resolution of VHA program problems/issues related to FOIA.
- Serves as expert consultant on all VHA FOIA Program related issues.
- Interacts closely with all VA/VHA operations to ensure the program is consistent with the overall VA/VHA mission.
- Negotiates sensitive issues with VHA staff to effectively integrate the VHA FOIA Program processes.
- Uses experience, discretion, judgment, and knowledge of the affected program areas when developing and revising existing policy and regulatory guidance.
