CMS recruits new Chief Medical Officer (Medicaid/CHIP)

Douglas Olson, a primary care and addiction medicine physician with experience treating patients at federally qualified community health centers, has recently taken on a new challenge as Chief Medical Officer (Medicaid/CHIP) at CMS.

In his new role he will work to advance quality and value in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) to improve the health of the programs’ 71 million beneficiaries. Olson brings direct experience at the state level working with clinicians, advocates and payers to develop new models of care that focus on integration, innovation and new payment methodologies.

Prior roles include:

  • Vice President of Clinical Affairs – Fair Haven Community Health Care
  • Chief Medical Officer – Norwalk Community Health Center
  • Medical Director, Hartford County Sites; Primary Care Physician – Community Health Center
