“Today’s video is about how we use the Healthcare Operations Center (HOC) to combat COVID-19. Whether it’s our response to fire, flood, or earthquake, we run our emergency operations from our HOC in VA Central Office. Leadership and I are on twice daily calls here to organize our system-wide response to COVID-19. These calls help us get organized and ensure you have the right equipment, PPE, and personnel to execute our missions to care for Veterans and American citizens. We are proud of the HOC, which is unique in American medicine. The staff you see in it work seven days a week to provide us with valuable information in real time, monitoring the health and capability of our network to identify and solve issues as they arise. They are focused on supporting you, day in and day out. We’ve developed a number of tools, like the Symphony screen, to see and analyze data from the entire county, or drill down to a single county or VA campus. We use our national surveillance tool to keep VISN and VAMC directors up to date on staff levels, supplies, and case numbers and to shift resources as needed. We just passed the 90-day mark of this instance of the HOC running related to COVID-19, a testament to our employee’s dedication to our work.” Watch the video here.
