CMS seeking Deputy Director, Office of Information Technology (OIT)

“As the Deputy Director, Office of Information Technology (OIT), you will provide executive leadership and technical advice for the planning, organization, coordination and management of the activities required to maintain an agency-wide information technology (IT) program. You will retain authority to commit program resources to accomplish OIT’s mission.”  

“Responsibilities 

  • Directs the day-to-day operations, assures effective coordination of issues involving more than one OIT component, and arbitrates issues when necessary. 
  • Represents the Director in IT contacts and negotiations with key officials of CMS, the Department, Congress, other Federal and State agencies, and private industry. 
  • Develops, implements, and ensures compliance with plans, policies, standards, infrastructures and architectures which establish the framework for the management of all CMS’ IT programs. 
  • Conducts continuing evaluations of CMS’ business needs to ensure that IT architecture plans are aligned with those needs and that the current and planned IT infrastructure supports the architecture plan. 
  • Develops plans and strategies to modify the IT infrastructure to support short and long range agency goals, objectives, and plans. 
  • Evaluates, selects, and advises others on the application of architecture modeling tool sets used to document, maintain, and enhance the architectural planning process. 
  • Provides technical advice on the evaluation, selection, implementation, and maintenance of information systems, ensuring appropriate investment in strategic and operational systems. 
  • Represents CMS on interagency workgroups established to develop Department or government-wide IT policy initiatives and solutions of critical issues. 
  • Develops guidelines for implementing broad government-wide directives, and aligns agency internal business practices with government-wide regulations and policies. 
  • Directs special system studies within the Office and coordinates staff in researching and documenting results, particularly in the more complex and sensitive areas and in those areas which cut across organizational lines.”
