Opinion: Takeaways from AFCEA Bethesda 2019 Health IT Summit

“Recently, I had the opportunity to attend AFCEA’s Health IT Summit in Bethesda, MD. This event brings together senior execs and IT professionals from across industry and government to dig into strategies for using modern IT to advance healthcare outcomes. Throughout my career I’ve been drawn to innovative applications of emerging technology, and while I find technology is interesting, I find the unexpected applications of technology to be the most intriguing. With an agenda that included topics on AI and machine learning, protecting health data, foundations for health IT, and health analytics, I had been looking forward to this summit, and it didn’t disappoint.”

“A notable speaker list prompted great conversations. For me, the most interesting were around:

To Migrate or Not to Migrate. Is that even the question? – in the “Health Analytics: Better Data for Better Outcomes” session, Col John Scott, DHA, referenced an IBM report that said 90 percent of data in the world today was created in the last two years – roughly 2.5 quintillion bytes of data a day…”

“Innovation is hard” says Captain Obvious.  Coming up with great ideas is not the problem. Executing on these ideas, getting them into production and then bringing them to scale is most often the insurmountable challenge…” Read the full post here.
