MedPage Today: Fee-for-Service Should Go, Says CMMI Chief

“Should fee-for-service payment disappear? It would if Adam Boehler had his way.”

“I’d like to banish fee-for-service; I’d like to banish the ‘revenue cycle,'” Boehler, director of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI), said at a briefing here Thursday. “How much time do doctors spend documenting and coding for revenue? That’s a terrible system…”

“On the other hand, Boehler said he thinks there are too few physicians in ACOs right now — the number stood at around 5% as of late last year — and that there are ways that risk-based reimbursement models could be made more attractive to doctors…”
