POLITICO: Bill would authorize VA to spend $50M to test new payment methods

“The VA Mission Act passed in the House Wednesday evening is going to shovel a lot of money into the department’s private care system — and have some incidental effects on health IT…”

“Finally, the bill authorizes the VA to spend up to $50 million a year on pilot programs in a new veterans’ version of the CMS Innovation Center — a place to test new payment methods, with a focus on care coordination and interoperability with private sector payers. A smaller pilot of medical scribes at 10 VA medical centers is authorized to see whether scribes increase patient and doctor satisfaction and reduce wait times…”
